Best Beaches on the Sunshine Coast
When you think of Queensland, you think of the beach, and nowhere is that truer than on the Sunshine Coast. Stretching hundreds of glorious kilometres, the Sunshine Coast coastline sparkles, containing a beach, bay and inlet for everyone. If you want to know more about our beautiful beaches look no further, because we’ve got you covered.
Sunshine Coast’s Best Beaches
Calmer Waters
If you’ve got young children, or simply just want a more tranquil setting to unwind by the water, check out these beautiful spots that are calm, accessible and stunning.
Kings Beach
More than just a beach, Kings Beach is a one-stop spot for any family wanting to spend a day on the coast. The beach itself is sheltered and calm, bordered by rock pools just waiting to be explored. There is also a beautiful saltwater pool looking out over the ocean, as well as a kid-friendly water fountain just begging to be played in. Just a short walk from the shops and eateries, you can happily spend a whole day in this wonderful place.
Main Beach Noosa
One of the rare north-facing beaches on Queensland’s coast, Noosa’s Main Beach provides unique conditions perfect for a safe yet fun day at the beach. Waves rarely exceed one metre- making it perfect for those learning to surf and the beach is patrolled year-round. This beach is also good for fishing, and its flat sand is perfect for sunbathing, playing and strolling. Toilets and showers are provided on site.
Peregian Beach
This beach is flanked by a gorgeous little coastal village full of shops, eateries and friendly faces. Peregian Beach itself stretches for miles with clean, white sands and waters perfect for swimming. More isolated than most similar beaches, Peregian Beach is perfect for a peaceful day by the sea.
Bulcock Beach
This stunning, sheltered beach destination is the ultimate coastal paradise. Bordered by a beach boardwalk, the bay itself is calm, clear and turquoise. The water is shallow and warm enough for young children to safely play, and the beach is patrolled by lifeguards from September to May. Along the shore and boardwalk, you can stop in at one of many places to eat while looking out across the ocean at nearby Bribie Island.
Surfing
If surfing is more your thing, you are truly spoilt for choice on the Sunshine Coast. Here are some must-hit spots if you like to ride the waves.
Moffat Beach
Not for amateurs, Moffat Beach is a non-patrolled point break paradise. There is, however, a sandy inlet called Tooway Creek for less confident swimmers and children to paddle in. Overlooking the beach is Eleanor Shipley Memorial Park, where there are perfect spots for picnics containing barbecues, shelter and shady trees.
Coolum Beach
Renowned for its surf club, Coolum Beach is a must-stop for surfers visiting the Sunshine Coast. With consistent waves and surfing lessons offered, Coolum beach is perfect for surfers at all stages. Not just for surfers, Coolum Beach is patrolled and is suitable for swimmers. It is backed by a park, skatepark and shopping and entertainment strip, giving the non-surfers in the family plenty to do. You can even witness majestic humpback whales along the coast from June to November.
Worth the Trek
Some beaches on the Sunshine Coast are a little secluded, but well worth the journey. If you’ve got the time and ability, here are some off the beaten track beaches worth a visit.
Alexandria bay
Make sure to bring along everything you may need for this one, because it’s a 3km hike to get to Alexandria Bay. This is a beautiful spot to visit if you’re wanting to forget the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Just be aware that it attracts locals who like it for that exact reason, and like to practise nudity from time to time!
Mudjimba Beach
It isn’t distance that makes this beach hard to get to, it’s finding it. Close to the centre of the Sunshine Coast once you find it, you won’t want to leave. Perfect for swimmers (between the flags), surfers and fisher people, this beach is patrolled daily. There is a playground, barbecues and picnic tables just behind the beach, and cafes nearby.
