The Sunshine Coast is a family friendly community to live in, finding the right school and suburb to live in can be daunting.  Here’s a few tips to consider if you are contemplating the move to the Sunshine Coast with children.

1. Primary schools offer education from Prep to Year 6 and secondary schools offer education from Years 7 to 12.

2. Kindergarten (‘kindy’) is a non-compulsory early childhood education programme for kids in the year before they start school. “Prep” is the first year of official schooling in Queensland and children must be aged 5 by 30 June in the year they enrol.

3. The School year starts in late January and runs until December. It is divided into 2 semesters, with 2 terms in each and vacation breaks for Easter, winter, spring and summer.

4. State schools are in catchment zones, which means students may not be able to attend unless they live in the catchment. Check the link in the bio for the Catchment zones map. There are also a variety of Private Schools available on the Sunshine Coast.

Once you settle into an area that meets your needs, you will find the Sunshine Coast is wonderful for families with lots of activities to partake in. If you still have unanswered questions, feel free to send me a message at Ocean Buyers Agency and I can answer them directly.

Catchment zone information can be found at http://www.qgso.qld.gov.au/maps/edmap/.
