Moving with Kids - Tips To Help Ease The Transition

It is considered one of life’s most stressful events – yep! Moving! It’s a love-hate relationship. We know we want to move, but when it comes to the organising, the thinking, the packing and then the doing we just want it to end, and fast!

Just to make life a little bit more fun (joke intended) or full of stress…lets add kids to the mix with the move…arrghhh (I hear you say).

Here’s some tips to help you keep it fun and keep the kids involved with the move – good luck!

  1. Discuss the move with your kids: To help ease into the move, including your children in the conversation early will help put them at ease during the transition.

  2. Keep a positive attitude: Kids are sooo smart, they pick up on your energy and your vibe. Do your best to stay positive during the move. Get them involved and excited about the move. Ask them questions like what are they looking forward to in the move? Use a calendar and a task list so they can see what’s happening and when

  3. Unpack your Child’s room first: To help the children feel at home faster, unpack their room first. Having their familiar toys, and favourite books and bed setup will help create a calm safe place for them.

  4. Meet the neighbours: Community and friends are important. If your new neighbours have children the same age as yours, make a point of introducing yourself. Having nearby playmates and friends will help the transition in the first few weeks until everyone settles in.
